Collaborate

I'm eager to collaborate with people interested in the areas of elementary science, science teacher education, science curriculum development, and nature of science. Whether you're an academic, a teacher, or a school administrator, I'd love to hear from you!

Professional Development

I am available to lead professional development activities for schools, grade-level teams, or individual teachers. These activities can be in the form of in-person workshops, Zoom webinars, or other innovative formats. My areas of expertise include

  • elementary science education

  • nature of science

  • elementary level integrated STEM

  • elementary science curriculum development

Let me know if you are interested in working together!

Learn

I regularly advise graduate students in the Mathematics, Science, and Learning Technologies (MSLT) program at UMass in two pathways.

  • The PhD program is ideal for students who want to learn how to conduct research in STEM education. Students on this pathway are trained for faculty positions at a university or community college, working for nonprofits, or working in a school district. This program can be completed on a full-time or part-time schedule. Full-time students typically take 4-6 years to complete this program, culminating in a dissertation project.

  • The EdS (Education Specialist) program focuses more on developing a robust understanding of STEM practice. Many students on this pathway seek an advanced degree to improve their own teaching, take on a leadership role in their school, and act as a mentor to other teachers in their district. (Note that this degree does not lead to a new teaching license.) This program can be completed on a full-time or part-time schedule. Full-time students typically take 2-3 years to complete this program, and do not have to complete a dissertation project.

I also teach in the CTEP Elementary Licensure program at UMass. Successful completion of this program leads to an MEd degree and an initial license in elementary education in the state of Massachusetts. This program also has two pathways.

  • The 10-month option enrolls students who have already attained a Bachelor's Degree. Students begin coursework during the summer session and complete the program the following Spring.

  • Undergraduate students can apply for the 4+1 pathway. These students start taking licensure courses in their senior year, and continue on with a 10-month Master's degree. This program allows students more flexibility during their Master's year and is an excellent option for students already enrolled at UMass.
